Remember that old Clairol commercial? As I recall, there was a sexy blond swirling her long locks as she proclaimed “If I’ve only one life, let me live it as a blond.” I searched through 7 pages of YouTube Clairol commercials and couldn’t find it. I can’t believe they haven’t archived that classic.
The statement resonates with me. Perhaps it’s a bit scary that some of my ideals are fashioned from 1970’s TV commercials, but as far as I know, I only have one life, and I do want to live it as a blond. Of course we all know blondes have more fun. With that in mind, I visited my old friend Corey at Bella Naturale and magically, I’m blond again. He cut off my tiny chemo hair curls and turned the gray to golden yellow, and for the first time since I lost my hair, I have a civilian do. Hair that someone might actually have on purpose rather than “I’m recovering from chemo” hair.
Walking into Bella Naturale on Wednesday, Corey and cute wife, Laura greeted me at the reception desk. Both immediately began to study my hair. Feeling self-conscious, I told them, “Stop looking at my hair!”
Corey laughed and said, “I have to look at your hair. That’s my job.” And do his job, he did and quite well! Given the choice, I doubt that I would ever have cut my hair this short, but since it was handed to me I’ll take it. I can wash, blow dry, and style my hair in about 7 minutes and I’m totally okay with the look. Who wouldn’t love that?
