In Greek mythology, the gods dined on ambrosia, often served by doves.
Long before I knew about ambrosia, I told my mom that in Heaven we would feast upon steak, pizza, and White Castles.
Then I grew up. Pizza wins–stays on the divine menu–but will be joined on the menu by a luscious deep, green vegetable salad and a perfectly oaked, crisp Chardonnay with a butterscotch finish. And if the the doves are okay with serving, no problem.
I have a bit of a pizza obsession which amounts to a several times-a-week fix. I have my favorites and I view each of them as a totally different dish. One has no bearing on the other. For example a Margherita Pizza at Jockamo does not satisfy the need for our special creation pizza at LaTrattoria. Likewise, neither of those can step in to replace the Veggie Delight at Kasey Pizza Spot in Whiteland or our very own original production at home. This means that feasibly, I could eat pizza four times in one week and it would technically be four different foods. I actually may have done this.
I have a few dining guidelines. First, whenever possible, I prefer dining in house. Pizza from a box takes on the aroma of cardboard. I can certainly consume it, but fresh out of the oven is gold. Secondly, pizza goes with wine. If you don’t have a wine license, don’t serve pizza. Period.
I stepped into trouble the other night when I posted an Instagram from our table at La Trattoria, “Best pizza in town.” My Jockamo buddies immediately commented, “Excuse me?!” Two completely different things. Love them equally! In fact, they are among my top contenders.
Honorable mention:
Goat in the Garden Flatbread pizza (veggies with goat cheese) at Vino Villa, but I really go there for the wine–another slight obsession.
The Deluxe at West End Pizza in Waynesburg, OH.
I’m hungry!
