My spirit has lifted by 5 points on the Richter scale. I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to pull out of my funk and be up for this trip.
Clothes:
I figured out my clothing for our Scotland adventure. I’m happiest in a pair of nicely fitting jeans, a soft, long sleeved Perfect T with extra long sleeves, and my Merrells. No fluff. No frills. Yesterday, I found that “just right” T-shirt and bought it in brown, black, and white. Today, my delivery arrived from J. Crew . . . more long sleeved T’s in black and white. All set.
Jeans are another issue. Holy crap. It’s a lifelong quest to find a pair that truly fit. Von Maur sells NYDJ. Not Your Daughter’s Jeans. The tag proudly states “Flattens your tummy. Criss Cross feature will lift your buttocks and allow you to look and feel one size smaller.” Bullshit. The waistband rides just under my armpits and they feel like they’ll stretch out with the crotch winding up at my knees. What do you do? I bought “The Sarah Boot” in black.
I returned the new style of Merrells that I purchased yesterday after wearing them around the house all morning and deciding they just weren’t me. I swapped them out for a brown pair of Merrells identical to the black and tan ones I wear every, single day of my life.
The packing stress is over. At 52 years old, cute is a state of mind. I may dress as I wish. I have my new black jeans that probably don’t fit, two old jeans that sort of fit, 10 T-shirts and my identical black, tan, and brown shoes. Throw in jammies and undies and I’m done. I already decided to take the coat that Jessica discarded after ninth grade that has a nice zip-out jacket and a hood. It’s water repellant. Perfect for the blustery Scotland weather.
Friends:
I lunched with the Greenwood Commons girls. We laughed and chatted for almost three hours and I ate my favorite onion, green pepper, and artichoke pizza at BJ’s. Good for the soul.
Chardonnay:
There is nothing like indulging in a celebatory glass of Chardonnay during lunch to lift one’s spirit. It works!
Clothes, friends, and Chardonny. All better.
