Get Your Act Together!
June 7, 2009

“Listen to your body. Sleep when you’re tired. Eat when you’re hungry.” The cancer treating mantra. Okay, it is time now for my body to sit up and start listening to me. Enough already! Get your act together and move on toward strength and health.

I finally managed to control my diverticulitis attack by taking two antibiotics which made me nauseous. Pretty miserable, but way better than the pain in my gut. On Thursday, I was treated to two more travel shots, Tetanus and Typhoid fever. By afternoon, my left arm was aching so badly, I became convinced that I had developed Typhoid fever and called the travel-shot-doctor in a panic. He assured me it was the Tetanus shot that was all but killing me and an ice pack and Tylenol would suffice, no amputation necessary. This is Sunday and it still hurts!

By Friday, my regular doctor assured me that my diverticulitis was greatly improved and I had the all clear to head out on Safari which was a major relief. Start talking about cancelling a trip and I start to panic, big time.

I still have the osteoporosis issue to deal with and I was diagnosed with early stage glaucoma this week for which I will begin treatment when I return. Another doctor, more check-ups, another medication. At this point, I’m danged weary of every little physical ailment developing into a major deal. I’m sick of doctor’s appointments, medicine, and feeling crappy. It’s high time for my body to sit up and listen to me . . . “Get your act together!”

The Universe is guiding me on an incredible adventure: my Plan B. I write here to share bits of my Odyssey, hopefully to inspire, encourage, or extend the virtual hand of friendship.

When I quit teaching in 2014, I could never have imagined the growth I would experience through travel, writing, reading, therapy, and introspection.

I believe human connection and compassion will go a long way toward our healing, and the best way to connect and feel compassion for one another is through the sharing of our stories.

Thank you for joining me here. I appreciate you and may we grow together.
