My Summer of 2025 has been one deserving of Social Media documentation, and yet I’ve posted nary a photo. Because I can’t. It doesn’t feel right to present a scene of giggling grandkids, splendid nature, food and flowers worthy of a magazine spread, Atlantic sunrises, and new experiences shared with people I love.
Why? Thank you for asking.
Because there is a major shit storm wreaking havoc on my country and I’m suffering from a constant, low-grade form of pissed-off-edness. It sits in the back of my mind and in the cells of my body as a thick background of ick present behind all the wonderful.
It came to me that if I wrote an honest accounting of some of the things I can’t ignore, I could share the happy without feeling like I’m glossing over the pissy.
As of today, August 15, 2025, even if I post photos of all the wonder of my summer, I’ll be on record that I am SPO (still pissed off).
About What Are You Pissed?
Thank you for asking.
Kamala didn’t win.
Who we got instead.
Gaslighting and complete dereliction of guardrails and guts.
Please, Say More. Thank you; I will.
There are plenty of brave experts active in the ether who are working hard at investigative reporting and uncovering the truth, of which I consume a fair amount. They are doing a great job, and some are even losing their jobs over it. The truth is scary. We’re in trouble, and I wish I had the education and know-how to jump with both feet into that lane, but I don’t, so the best I can do is to be real and write what I’m thinking.
What Happened to Truth?
What scares me most is the way Americans seem to accept the whittling away of verified, obvious truth. I’m not talking about political biases here, or issues that have two disputable sides. I’m talking about facts. A truth that people somehow feel empowered to monkey with over time. Make it blurry and questionable when it absolutely isn’t.
The Big Lie
Everyone knows. There is a big, fat, lie out there that caused a whole hell of a lot of trouble in this country, and we’re still talking about it. In fact, some pretty high up people in our government still get by with telling that same, old, tired lie in public and we just sort of roll our eyes. How has this happened?
On Jan 6, 2021, I sat watching my TV in horror as a mob attacked the Capitol building in Washington DC to stop the certification of a free and fair election because their guy didn’t win. We all saw it. All the news outlets covered it. There is a Wikipedia page that states, “According to the bipartisan House select committee . . .”
You know all about it. The attempted coup and all.
And yet, the truth of that day has been so watered down, swept under the rug, and somehow rationalized that the guy who didn’t win and caused the whole riot is back living in our White House. All rioters have been pardoned and one of them, who is on video calling “Kill them!” (He was talking about the Capitol police, btw,) now works in the United States Department of Justice.
What?
Yes. This pisses me off.
Immigration and The Bill of Goods
People were told there were rapists and murderers, by the thousands, freely crossing over the borders of the U.S., backpacks full of Fentanyl, stealing American jobs, not paying taxes, and collecting Medicaid while they were at it.
This is not true.
Immigration “control,” obsessed by uninformed quotas has completely overshadowed any sense of common decency.
Kindness be damned.
Compassion be ignored.
Empathy forgotten.
It is heartbreaking that our own government is behind this. And flummoxing that those who are behind these actions assume citizens will not rise up and say this is not okay. Who do they think we are?
Power and Overreach
Politics is in the business of trying to get more for one’s side. I guess that’s why we send people to Washington to watch out for us, but I can tell you the congressmen and senators from Indiana are ignoring me and my wishes. They seem to be caught up in this shitstorm and they’re just on with it.
I called to ask them not to confirm obviously unqualified cabinet appointees and judges and they went right on and voted for them. And then when the unqualified part showed in real time, they just didn’t do anything. They say weird stuff and pat constituents on the head and say things like “this is really what you want,” when it’s not what we want. No way no how.
I have requested funding not be cut for USAID and public radio and libraries and Medicaid and public schools. Funding already voted for by Congress, paid for by my taxes, and was then clawed back.
I begged them not to pass the Big Ugly Bill that had so many horrifying one-liners in it that even the assholes who voted for it refused to read it. You know what happened there.
As a native Hoosier, I am horrified at the notion of a “Speedway Slammer” and am adamantly opposed to mid-decade congressional redistricting.
Elected officials in Washington D.C. are getting by with a ton of illegal stuff. They are acting as if they have no conscience or constituents to whom they must answer. They have taken their seat on the steamroller that juggernauts through Washington and State Capitals everywhere.
I can’t make sense of it all.
Money and Morals
Since when is the price of eggs more important than the moral example our leaders set for our children? Do we still teach our kids to tell the truth, share their toys, and keep their hands to themselves?
And the whole “prices going down” thing? Doesn’t appear to be happening any time soon.
Heroes
To the Faith leaders, lawyers, and elected officials who are standing up to the nonsense, who still believe we are to take care of the least among us, thank you. You are my heroes.
To the brave tellers of the true story, thank you. You are Super Heroes.
To the capitulators, those whom I hold ultimately responsible, I don’t like you right now.
It all just pisses me off!
