My Brand New “Real Job”
August 12, 2014

Yesterday was awesome!  Worked at my brand-new, real job: writer.  When I decided to “for real” set aside my teaching career and get this writer thing going, BF offered to employ me part-time as the writer for his business website, Greenwood Counseling (GCA).  This website has been in the planning stages for years with reality eluding us.

Months before I walked the halls of CGHS for the last time, I made a plan in which I would work two, part-time jobs, freelance writer and writer of content for BF’s website.  I even set a weekly schedule, carefully outlined on a yellow legal pad:

  • Sunday:        Rest and Relaxation
  • Monday:       Write for GCA
  • Tuesday:       Freelance writing–***Do Not Disturb
  • Wednesday: Freelance writing–***Do Not Disturb
  • Thursday:     Write for GCA
  • Friday:           Play Day
  • Saturday:      Special Projects Day with scheduled social time in the evening

***Do not Disturb is a note to myself not to get sidetracked from my writing projects by Instagram, phone calls, and lunch dates.

This being Tuesday, I pat myself on the back for I have lived the schedule so far this week.  Sunday I rested.  Yesterday I was highly productive writing content for the soon-to-open website.  BF paced, looked out the window, spewed ideas, while I pecked at the computer crafting sentences for him. He said what he wanted to say and then I said it for him.   As I finished each page, he reviewed it and offered small suggestions for edits, which I immediately set into type, to which he declared, “perfect!”  We were a machine and I loved every second of it!

And now today I’ve already posted this blog and I’m off to submit something to somewhere.  I’ll let my Angels guide me.

Loving life and my “Real Job” that’s not a job cause it doesn’t feel like work cause I love it!

The Universe is guiding me on an incredible adventure: my Plan B. I write here to share bits of my Odyssey, hopefully to inspire, encourage, or extend the virtual hand of friendship.

When I quit teaching in 2014, I could never have imagined the growth I would experience through travel, writing, reading, therapy, and introspection.

I believe human connection and compassion will go a long way toward our healing, and the best way to connect and feel compassion for one another is through the sharing of our stories.

Thank you for joining me here. I appreciate you and may we grow together.
